After a good solid post like the UPNESS interview (or forward progression with FOLLY in general), I treat myself to unplugging (from a day to a week depending on how long I can get away) and go get lost.  I pick a general direction that I have never rode before and go.

Yesterday I picked the North West of Alabama.

Well RiddenSo, in case you were wondering… horses are big.  I know this may seem obvious but I don’t have daily encounters with these 4 legged beauties, so to get this close was amazing.  Initially I saw the horses in the field and rode past.  The thought hit me… ‘when do you ever get to stop and chill with horses?’ So I turned around and started taking snaps.

What I realized.  Horses are curious.  I didn’t get but 2 photos in and these guys (or gals) greeted me at the fence, sticking their necks out to smell me.  So, I politely held out my hand (very cautiously. Yeah… I was a bit scared. As mentioned above, they are big), this guy (or gal) sniffed a couple sniffs and away I went to pet his (or her) nose!! WHAT!! So. RAD!

Mr. Fred

Dude, one of the most memorable rides to date and I didn’t even ride but 40’ish miles in a direction I’ve never rode before.

What did I learn:

– Horses are curious gentle creatures.

– Explore your surroundings with no time limit set.

– Always be prepared to stop and take a few snaps.

– Pack a snack, beer or both. Find a cool shaded tree and enjoy it!
