South In Yo Mouth Recap

South In Yo Mouth was epic!!! I got in Friday evening to meet up with Adam Hite and Brett Edmonds (Event Directors) at the courts.  Such an effort to buy, transport, and build up the two courts.  The courts were immediately used when they were finished being constructed.  The passionate bike polo vibe was/is deeply engrained with this tournament and the people involved!!

11 states were represented (Missouri, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Colorado) with 24 teams battling to win the tournament!

The tournament started at 10.  The coffee/beers were flowing as the teams gathered in prep for the day

And everyone was off.  After a short gathering of all the teams to go over some rules, the action started.Folly love was in full effect.  I was asked by just about everyone what team I was on, or if I played bike polo.  It was an awkward response when I said that I didn’t, and that I was just there to promote bike polo as well as the Ride x Create vibe; everyone was super supportive and was diggin it.  As with most bike culture, It’s like instant family.  I, and the idea of Folly, were welcomed with open arms.

The two courts were right in front of the University of Memphis Tigers stadium.  Pretty rad location.

Skid!

The bracket was full of great teams; “Texas Trill won the tournament.  They only lost once and that was in the final game, but since they were still in the winner’s bracket both teams had to play again and they won the second game.”  Super tight competition.

I camped in Brett’s backyard Friday and Saturday night (nice backyard Mr. Edmonds).  Very thankful for a location to crash.  If you are even remotely close to Memphis, TN, make sure to get in on the action from Memphis Hardcourt Bike Polo! “We play every Wednesday & Sunday at 7:30pm at Bluff City Sports. Open to anyone, beginner or experienced, male or female, young or old!”  You will be welcomed with open arms.

*Also, keep a close eye on Memphis Hardcourt Bike Polo for their next tournament.  This was a really good turn out.  I’m sure it wont be the last.  Ride x Create Folly friends!!

Lower Southside Pro

These are SO RAD!  I don’t typically get this hyped about a pair of sneakers, but these hit the spot.  I gotta hand it to Brian (Chrome’s Press Contact) for targeting Folly with these dope Urban SPD shoes.  I hope you guys dig these, we most definitely are.  Make sure to head over to Chrome for a closer look at the Lower Southside Pro!

“For Fall 2012 Chrome is proud to announce a new SPD shoe, the Lower Southside Pro.  The Lower Southside Pro is the latest in Chrome’s Pro/SPD Series and was created for commuters who want clip-in performance in a sneaker they can wear all day long.  It features a 100% vulcanized sole with rigid nylon shank on 3/4 of the sole with recessed SPD-compatible sole for pedal power and flexible shank at the toe-plate to help you walk smoother.  The durable leather and nylon upper make the Lower Southside Pro an instant classic for Urban SPD shoes.” – Chrome

Duplex Lever

The Duplex Lever is a single brake lever that pulls on two brake cables simultaneously. It was originally designed for bike polo players, to allow them to use both brakes while swinging a polo mallet with their free hand. Since its introduction the Duplex has generated considerable excitement among adaptive cyclists as well.” – Paul Component

Sick!  I’ll be keeing an eye out for any gnar polo players using these suckers at South In Yo Mouth this Saturday.
