Joshua Bryant // “Musings on the Oregon Outback”

Joshua OO

I’ve sat down several times to write about my experiences during the Oregon Outback and every time, I feel like words have fallen short of the experience.”

I love reading about Joshua’s experience with the Oregon Outback. As I’m on the cusp of having my FaTRoB built up, reading statements like this, “I rode my FaTRoB prototype during the Outback and I loved it.  Every time I get on the bike, I can’t help but smile at how much fun it is, how it handles and how I love the build”, gets me super amped to thrash on this #getradmachine!

I hope you’ll go check out the full story over on Joshua’s site. Really great insite and photos to go along with it. Cheers!

Eyes Wide Open // Morning Light

imageI’m in the final days without a bicicleta and I getting pumped like a kid on Christmas morning!

I got up this morning a bit earlier than normal and hit the ground running. I grabbed my camera, opened the door, and a wave of cool breeze/birds chirping filled the air! It was everything I wish each morning was.

These photos are from this mornings run x shoot. I hope you’re having an equally rad morning! Cheers!

Eyes Wide Open

imageimageI’ve been without bicycle for 2 months now due to getting hit by a car, recovery, and building up new whips. I have a simple cruiser that serves me very well for beer runs and running a muck around town to capture skaters/bmx riders, but nothing that I can nail solid mileage or hill climbing pain that I love.

My drive has been extinguished a bit to ride x create. This has created a boredom, boredom lead to thinking creatively to get out of boredom, and the thought hit me… run sucker! Please keep in mind that I’m not a runner and don’t strive to be, but it does put me into the pain cave that I crave, helps me keep my legs/heart in check, and lends the opportunity to capture life in a slower manner.

The last few months I’ve been waking up early, iPhone/film camera in hand, and nailing anywhere from 3 – 8 mile runs. The mornings are the best! Everyone is asleep, birds making bird sounds, and the sun peaking over the trees. It’s quite beautiful.

With all that being said, the images above are two of my favorite from slowing down, taking a deep breath, and keeping my eyes wide open as I run.

The only thing limiting you is yourself. Know that. Ride, create, and make things happen. Some times it’s harder than others, but that’s no excuse to do nothing. Cheers!

Damian Riehl // Film Photography

Damian RiehlDamian Riehl1Damian Riehl2Just went over and checked out Damian Riehl’s site. So. GNARLY!! Big inspiration to grow as a film photography. Above are the top 3 photos that I’m in love with.

Why do I dive deep into Damian’s work?

“I am self taught, choosing to cut my teeth with fully mechanical film photography. That and my longtime job as a bicycle messenger have been perfect as the vehicles to get me to where I am. I started out shooting for myself, but I have grown to love sharing what I do with others. My style as I see it is obvious and to the point, born from my photographic interests in architecture(order, form, balance, harmony, and cleanliness bordering on standardized perfection) and skateboarding(raw, free flowing and a bit more individualistic, yet very under control). One part documentary and one part artistic expression, often at the same time, and without overpowering the subject, but adding to its presentation. I feel a respect to whatever I shoot and always hope to portray it in the most palatable manner possible.”

That’s why…

Go get Riehl!! Happy Friday. Take advantage of your day. Cheers!

Boreas Gear // The Tiago x Trava Tent

Boreas Tiago Glacier WhiteTiagoTrava_GlacierWhite-7TravaBoreas poleSingle and double pole design.

As soon as I saw these drop in Boreas Gear’s lookbook I was in love! So clean, simple, functional. Boreas really nailed it with these two tents. They come in a clean/simple one pole (Trava) and two pole (Tiago) design. They both sleep two people, or one person and dog, or one person and two smaller people, or four small people… you get the idea.

“Since 2010, we’ve been designing award winning outdoor gear: beautiful, practical, hardwearing gear for people as passionate as we are about getting outdoors.”

Yes they have. I hope you dig as much as I do. Go to Boreas Gear and check these out for yourself. Also keep a close eye on John Watson’s IG page. He’s been putting the Tiago to the test. Cheers!
