Post Go Skate Day

Had a blast yesterday!  Rolled up to the skate park to catch some of the dope competition action.  I was pleasantly supprised at all the local Folly supporters!  The sun was out, beverages were had, and people were soaking it up via bike and board!  Check out some of the photos below of the happening throughout the day.

I meet up with Matt Uptain and Chris Rost to cruise downtown later on in the evening.  These dudes were killing it!!There was an “art walk” going on in the area, which ended up being pretty fun to ride through (dodging people traffic is always entertaining to me).  The spot that Chris wanted to hit was all blocked by cars due to the event, so we headed to the “water gap” (aka “Uptain gap”).  Matt has been dreaming about clearing this for a bit!  He approached it several times only to stop and re-evaluate his speed, making sure he had enough to dominate this beast.  After several approaches, you could see it in his eyes… he was ready to commit!  He backed up, started hauling full speed… only to be stopped by this duck that “conveniently” placed itself right where Matt was going to land.  Talk about breaking the vibe!!  It took a couple more approaches, then, low and behold… Matt clears it by close to 3 feet LOL!  Dude was a freaking speed demon hauling through the downtown park!  Solid gap clearing abilities Matt!  Well done sir.

Shortly after I got the photo of Matt via iPhone, I had to skate off and meet with our screen printer to conjure up some sweet new apparel for your wearing pleasure!  That was good and creative, then headed off to the good ol’ Taco Bus, and devoured one of these!  Shortly after… Go Skate Day was over cuz I was passed out.  Very good and productive day!

Cadence Grand Opening

I’m very jealous of you Hermosa Beach residence!  You get your own bad ass Cadence store all to yourself June 30th!  On top of that, you get to have a day of races, food and prizes!!  Sounds like a perfect Saturday to me.  If you are even remotely close to Hermosa Beach, CA you definitely need to attend this sweet shin dig!

Nice work from FIXIE FAMOUS!!

“Sam Erickson, Antonyo “Warhol” Wothe, and Kris Sundet brought us the first Midwest Mayhem three years ago in Milwaukee Wisconsin; it was the first real FGFS event…EVER. It has continued every year since; and the concept embodies the essence of the FGFS sub culture. Open a skatepark in the middle of the night and throw an underground contest that lasts until the earlier hours of the morning. Not for mass media coverage, not for fame, but just so the elite can battle it out for the top slot. While the rest of the world is sleeping these riders are putting it all on the line for nothing more than credibility. We were psyched to be apart of the event this year, and for years to come” – FIXIE FAMOUS

Merckx Monday

I was up at a MTB TT last Thursday helping my buddy drink a lot of beer/support some local MTB racers, and one of these beauties shows up.  In my some what inebriated state of mind, I politely asked Le rider of  Eddy’s bicycle if I could snap a few photos.  Low and behold… with the help of some booze and the sun shining on this sweet machine, a decent photo was born.

Real Eyes Interviews Dustin Klein

“Cadence brought together everything I was interested in: biking, design, photography, and just constant creating.” – Dustin Klein via Real Eyes

Katrina Tan conducted a very good interview of DKlein.  It’s motivating to see where Dustin started and where he is today.  It all starts with an idea and a creative approach to that idea.  Not every idea will pan out but that’s part of the fun and process ideas go through.  I used to think that every creative idea I had was supposed to be successful.  This held me back from even starting some stuff because I was afraid of “failure”… failure from who, myself?  Through examples of co-founder Kyle Steed and other intelligent creative people like Dustin Klein, that mold has been broken.  Create freely, “I don’t really think about what I want it to come out like.  It’s more of free-making or doing whatever feels right.” – Dustin Klein via Real Eyes
