David killing it the second year in a row (shown on the left shooting video)!! It’s always impressive to see who makes it out to this rad BMX Jam in the small town of Hartselle, AL. David pulls together folks near and far. Luckily I’m only about 30 minutes away so it’s a no brainer to pop in and do my best to photo document the event. Plus… my bud Chris Rost was out nailing it. Never a bad time shooting this dude.
David Cortez getting up.
Chris Rost. Grind 360 out. Never quite stuck it but got damn close. The whole event was cheering him on.
As the day went on and my conveniently place Poler koozie at my side… the beers kept flowing as the Jam rolled on. But lets be honest… who doesn’t get that extra creative spark after a few adult beverages? You tend to be a bit more explorative and willing to get that shot you may overlook otherwise. It’s really a fine line between “creative drinking” vs. “now I’m drunk”.
This dude! Named “The Brit”, started pushing flares on the quarter and eating it pretty good. He got so close, but after a couple hard slams he gave them up for the day.
I hope you dig. If you’re in the area you should come out and support this next year. You can follow along on David Cortez’s social media goodness via Twitter and Instagram. I hope you will. Cheers!
I’ve had the pleasure of riding with Dustin all around the land and this shot has by far turned out the best. He just recently got married to a beautiful young lady by the name of Adrianna and I wanted to give him something to remember the road by.
I hope all the best Dustin x Adrianna! Cheers guys!!
(Editors Note: Chock this up as a personal post. Jah blessed!)
“A true riding fundamental, our version of the under-saddle bag is a simple execution of a lasting design. Made from a combination of soft, flexible 10 oz. canvas as well as our rugged 18 oz. twill, it will mold to both its contents and its position on the bike. A leather strap attachment functions exactly like a double-ring belt, allowing you to customize how tight the bag fits and just where it attaches, as well as delivering easy off-and-on for security. The interior is split into one larger pocket designed to hold everything from a spare tire tube to a tool set, while the smaller pocket neatly fits your phone keeping it safe from the rest of your gear. A rear light strap holds your blinking light (you have one, right?).”
“A waxed canvas workhorse, we designed this utility bag to carry a working day’s worth of gear without getting overstuffed. Its dimensions will fit a 13” MacBook Air, a light jacket, a notebook and some other small essentials safely, without worrying about your legs hitting it while pedaling. The combination of 10 oz. and 18 oz. waxed cotton fabrics allows it to flex with ease, while also reducing its overall weight. Brass zippers resist rust or corrosion, and only get smoother with use, and the custom brass rivets add a contrasting detail to the durable canvas material. Five different attachment points let you position the bag securely to the top tube, down tube and seat tube.”
“When you’re headed into the hills (or to the beach, or pretty much anywhere good) having a little storage that’s within arm’s reach is always welcome. A compact design, this handlebar bag lets you access food, maps or an extra layer easily, without having to rummage through all your gear. Its waxed canvas body is flexible and durable, and it attaches easily to the bars with two double-ring leather straps. For added security, you can attach it to the head tube, depending on the size and design of your bike. One long lash patch lets you run webbing through for increased carrying options—baguette anyone?”
“On Friday, May 2nd, from 7—10pm join us at our San Francisco shop for a Q+A session with bike builder Aaron Stinner. Showcased will be one of his latest builds, a 650b hardtail with a unique geometry. Beer on tap, bourbon on the side, and a lot of talk about bikes.” – MW
I hope you’re in the area! And if you’ve never checked out Stinner Frameworks goodness, go do so now.

Now for the fun photos captured by John Watson (except maybe the first one… cuz he’s in it):

I‘ve had a week/end full of cycling exploration and capturing rad riders like Chris Rost. Although I’ve never ridden in the BMX style, I live vicariously through Chris and his rad skills. Luckily on the day we met up the sun (aka light) was perfect to ride x shoot.
I love the search for new spots/photos/ride x create vibes. I hope you folks have had an equally impressive week/end!

Last night was a blast! I love riding with good ol’ Davis. I rode his world famous blue shred sled that is ALWAYS fun to rip on.
The night started like this.
Le Text:
Me – What’s up dude. What are doing this afternoon?
Davis – Thursday night ride, probably.
Me – Word. I’m free. Care if I ride your blue whip?
Davis – Yeah, sure.
Me – Headed your way now.
And away I went for a night full of peddling goodness. I show up at Davis’, he’s rocking a tall boy and playing Nintendo 64 (10 rad points achieved). Helment, bibs, and shoes on… away he went, scoring that last touchdown on whatever the game was. Listening to vinyled MGMT Davis freshly acquired on national Record Store Day… I got amped to smash around town!
Although you FOLLY fanatics may not give one care about this story… I want to encourage you to get up with your friends this weekend and ride the unridden, familiar streets/dirt/graveled paths, etc.
A good Friday indeed. Cheers!
