The Chrome District

Our relationship with Chrome bags here at Folly HQ is one of great importance. Even before they started sending us their new line of bags to test and review, we were already sold on their quality and style. I remember visiting the Chrome store in SF earlier this year and was so happy to see how their brick and mortar store totally resonates with what they’re doing online. Everything is designed with intentionality and durability, not to mention with great style and finesse.

So when we got word from Chrome about them wanting us to review their new line of bags, well you could imagine how awesome that was. We aren’t even a year old yet but the fact that Chrome sees us and trusts us to deliver an excellent review is nothing short of significant. So without further ado here is my review on the new Chrome district bag. Enjoy!

Folly reviews the Chrome District

First impressions

Upon first sight the Chrome District is nothing short of sleek. The smooth lines and simple shape of the bag give me a major bag boner. And just like it’s brother, the Chrome Delta, this looks to be cut from the same Darth Vader cloth. It’s the blackest of blacks, but you can pick it up in Berline Blue and Woodland as well.

The simple rolltop construction is a perfect fit for this bag. It doesn’t impose itself on you, but fits naturally within your day to day life. You can pack it up and go with comfort knowing even if you get caught in a downpour your goods are well protected. That’s important when you carry such valuable goods like we do here at Folly.

But I think what really sets this bag apart for me is the way it fits on your back. The shoulder strap design makes for a completely comfortable haul. Whether you’re just grabbing it to go to the store or you’re packing it up for a long weekend, it’s going to be a comfortable ride. The sternum strap is always an added bonus as well.

Test Ride

When you live in Texas in the middle of summer you really only have two questions to ask yourself; Do I want to sweat in the morning or in the evening? Either way you’re going to face some serious heat. Lucky for me, this morning was only in the low 80’s for a quick ride to the store. I downed my first cup of coffee and set out on the road. Packing the bare essentials made the trip to the store light and easy. The bag fit like a glove to my back and didn’t slow me down at all.

1 carton of soy milk, a 6-pack of Modelo Especial (the official beer of Folly), and two bananas later my bag was packed and ready to go. The storage capacity of the Chrome District is nothing short of surprising. It may look like it won’t hold a lot, but its got plenty of room for you. The ride home, with the bag fully packed, was still easy. The only suggestion I would make for anyone carrying beer is to make a homemade padded insert for the bag. The cans kept digging in to my back and since the bag itself doesn’t have any padding built in, it made for an uncomfortable situation. It’s a minor detail, but one that I won’t overlook next time. However, I was happy to see my bananas survived the ride home without being bruised or totally destroyed.

In Conclusion

If you’re looking for a bag that fits well and has the style to match, then the Chrome District is what you’ve been waiting for. It doesn’t require the flash and bling of other bags to make it stand out. It’s the little things that matter. And in this case the subtleties are what make all the difference. Plus, you know since it has the Chrome seal of approval on it this bag will last you for years to come.

Folly Friday Shenanigans

Just in case you missed out on the Folly Friday shenanigans… be missed out no longer.

I got out of my ever demanding day job (as I’m sure most of you passionate, creative and note worthy cyclist/skaters out there have) and went straight for chill status. Typically a couple nips from Mr. Stanley (filled with quality Bourbon), chill music and a little down time will always do the trick.  Mr. Matt Uptain reminded me via txt that I was supposed to meet up with him and Mr. Chris Rost to thrash the city.  I promptly responded with a solid “hellz yeah”.  Kissed my super supportive wife goodbye, and away I went.

First stop… the city park.  Low and behold, Mr. Chase Freeman was present and doing what he does best.  I feel like I’m rubbing off on good ol’ Chase; he’s begun to lurk with the best of’em.

No worries though, I’m still the master lurker.  With an Anti-Hero tall boy on my side and sitting in chill status… I’ll always win.

Matt and Chris were warming up in the bowl while I was meeting some new homies and spreading the RidexCreate vibe.  As I’m sure you could imagine… it was already present.  After feeling some local love for Folly, we headed to the gas station to fill up on our beverages that were properly housed in my sick Chrome Delta.

I absolutely love riding with dudes like Matt, Chris and Chase.  My mind goes crazy as I spot spots like this.  I see the spot, tell Matt, Chris or Chase what I’m envisioning with it, and then they totally dominate.  Very well done Mr. Rost.

On to the next spot and I immediately see potential to spread a little love to my LA homies!

I was taking a breather and enjoyed watching Mr. Uptain build up a line and dominate it.  The finish was a sick gap 180 into a decline.  It started getting dark, so I didn’t get many more photos after the darkness covered the land.  I did manage to scrounge a photo of some product recognition, Cadence.  Lately there has been several signs around town that seem to reference Dustin Klein and Cadence.

Well there you have it.  The possibilities are endless with these Folly outings; they will continue to happen throughout the summer.  Matt and Chris are putting together some sick edits that you will hopefully see soon.  Last night will be added to them I’m sure.  The day is fresh and the possibilities are endless.  Peace! I’m off to the store to pick up some meat to grill and Modelo Especial to drank!  Ride x Create Folly friends!!

Coke Tall Boy Folly Style

Thanks to good ol’ Anit-Hero and Terrible One, we here at Folly can enjoy a “Coke” tall boy in most any environment.  “Does Coke make a tall boy”… Sure they do! “Are you drinking beer around children”… NO, that would be irresponsible.  “Where can I buy some Coke tall boys”… They have a limited NASCAR coke tall boy series at Wal-Mart.  Check out the finished product below.

D W H

This is amazing!  The Ride x Create vibe flows deep with Mr. Ortiz and the sick establishment he has built.  If you are in the NYC area, definitely check out DWH!  I promise you wont be disappointed.  I had the pleasure to do a quick impromptu video interview with Dave several months ago to get a better look inside what DWH is all about. To no surprise,  Dave simultaneously spread the love and truth about today’s skateboard company vibe.  Although, there is definitely nothing wrong with throwing in some unique high doller style into the wardrobe; just make sure you can’t get the same style for way less over at Dave’s Wear House!

Dave’s Wear House (DWH) is a retail brand based on the well known merchant Dave Ortiz and his industry colleagues.   DWH currently operates 1x store in Manhattan located in Chinatown at 123 Baxter Street.  The store features top name brand sneakers, clothing, bags, skateboards and BMX accessories.  In addition to the wear-house themed shopping experience, the space has a separate built out space with a large window for specialty brands to feature their products in a in-store pop-up shop.

DWH offers an eclectic mix of products not often sold together but that complete the needs and desires of the urban action athlete.  This includes pro model skateboards, performance footwear, single speed and BMX bikes, bags eyewear, accessories and more.

The most popular merchandise at DWH is the brand Another Dave’s Design (ADD+).    ADD+ is inspired by the large number of creative individuals that design and create for and with Dave.  ADD+ manufactures its own clothing and develops collaborative products with leading brands.” – DWH
