You Never Lose When You Cruise

image

I had a few different events going on this weekend I probably should have dedicated my time too but I opted to cruise and relax instead. No time frames. No direction. No nothin’. Just me, my ride, and beautiful skies. This weekend was much needed.

It started with coffee outside using fresh Hobo Rouleur beans from Ocean Air Cycles and everything else fell into place.

Here are a few shots exploring different environments my local area has to offer.

Saw / Rode / Shot Beautiful Things

imageYesterday was one SOLID day! I caught an amazing sun rise, got to further test out this handlebar bag we are collab creating with a rad bag company (more details soon), rode the FaTRoB on some fun trails, and further develop photography skills! BAM… Ride x Create to the max!!

I hope your Wednesday was equally as eventful!

The FaTRoB… AT NIGHT

IMG_6168I’m always amped to work with new cameras and this FujiFilm X-E2 with Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 lens is killing it!! Well… that in conjunction with VSCO, I’m set up with a truly mobile photo shooting/editing lab via two wheels!!

Go to FOLLY x DIGITAL to check out the other shots I nabbed last night.

Also… if you wanna lurk My Grid feel free to do so.

FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB Pre-Order Comes To A Close

imageThis is the last week to pre-order your FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB. I’ve been riding all over (and by all over I’m not exaggerating) the land on this solid hand build machine!

I talked with Joshua recently and expressed how much fun I’m really having on our FaTRoB. It has been the most pleasurable experience I’ve had on two wheels since I started riding. It’s so versatile and can be ridden on almost all terrain.

If you are teetering on picking up the special edition FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB I recommend you do so by Sunday. Although I’m partial to how amazing this ride is, I don’t think you’ll be able to ride yours without a constant smile on your face.

I hope whatever bicycle you choose to ride brings you the same joy day in, day out. Cheers!

**Here’s a few shots from my ride, soaking in the vibe:

FaTRoB On The Mountain

22380005Dude!! Rode this sucker on some smooth and haggard mountain bike trails… IT PERFORMED LIKE A DREAM!!

I rode with 40 psi in the tires, starting on road, climbed the Monte Sano mountain (faster than I’ve ever climbed it before fyi) and hit the trails on top. Keeping the same tire pressure I rode impressively fun stuff. When I got to section I thought I should get off and hike… the thought hit me, “Time to test this bikes abilities”, and IT PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS!!! Seriously, handling was so good and smooth on some pretty rough stuff.

With all that being said… this bike kills on all levels. Go to FOLLY x FILM to check more shots of this guy in the woods.

FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB Freedom

Fatrob on a Fence1Last night I got the FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB #getradmachine completed with the help of Blevins Bicycle Co. As soon as it was finished I darted out the door headed for anything off the road. I smashed through a construction site, rode the grass, and had the biggest smile on my face the entire time! I’VE BEEN OFF TWO WHEELS FOR 2 MONTHS!!! It was an explosion of pent up energy transferring through my legs into this snappy cross, road, rando! It was glorious!!

I ride for a few hours, taking snaps as I go, just thinking of how the next morning was going to play out. Do I wake up at the butt crack of dawn and hit up the FOLLYCROSS race routes or do I wait till the sun sets and enjoy that… WHY NOT BOTH?! I get up at 5 a.m., make coffee, eat a small breakfast, and head out to the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge where FOLLYCROSS 2014 will be held.

The humidity here in Alabama is through the roof and this morning was no exemption. It’s my first legit ride back. I take my Yashica FX-3 Super along for the journey to photo document smashing gravel on this beautiful black beauty. The fog was everywhere, peacful and quite, I take a few shots before I get out to Wheeler. As I’m peddling through the woods I see streaking light that would be a solid shot! What I didn’t focus on was that every shot doesn’t necessarily needed f/1:2. I was too excited to pay attention to what my aperture was set at and that’s ok. Things got a little tight. Lessons learned for next go around… PLUS my lens and view finder were fogged most of the time. This fall I’ll have a lot more experience and it won’t be magma hot/humid.

The photos below were taken this morning, processed locally, and now up for your viewing pleasure. It shows the pre, during, and post ride.

My First Ride Back

imageBAM! back in the saddle!

So much has happened the last 6 weeks! I have no clue where the time has gone but pumped on the outcome. My time has been sparse as of late and the blog has suffered posts because of it, but no need to fear… great things are in the works that nail it on all levels!

About a week ago I took my first ride after getting hit by a car. When I don’t ride, my creativity takes a tole… fact. It was interesting to see how I would react in life without riding and all I kept thinking was “this is weird”. I started running more (“this is weird”) and diving deep into projects referenced above.

Some say it might have been perfect timing. The FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB came to completion and currently up for pre-order. This also means that the Surly CrossxCheck I’ve ridden all over the land that was smashed by person not paying attention will be replaced with an amazing American made, hand build #getradmachine (Editor’s Note: Seriously guys… I’m halfway done building my personal FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB up. This thing is killer)!!

With superb amount of energy and only my junkyard fixed gear build available… I took off!!  My plan was to ride down to a river I’ve rode to many times before, crack open a beer, and watch the sun set. I wanted to see how my should would react riding a small 18 miles. The route I took was the same, but I had my eyes geared to finding something I’ve never noticed before, ride/hike it… and that I did. I found this beautiful spot on a railed road overpass that has one HELL of a stunning view of the valley.

imageI hope you guys have had a killer summer so far. Really looking forward to the cross season and thrashing with my FaTRoB. Fun times will be had for sure.

The FOLLY x BRYANT FatRob

photo 4We are very proud to release the FOLLY x BRYANT edition FatRob for your preorder pleasure.

There are three different models for you to choose from, FatRob Steve, FatRob Dixie, and L’iL FatRob. They range from a 700c, 650b, and 26″ wheel base to fit the kind of riding your going to do on this #GETRADMACHINE! I personally went with the FatRob Steve and am in the process of hooking up my 700c thrashing machine! So many great memories will be made on this one of kind hand-made/American made bicicleta! That… and Co-Founder/best bud Kyle Steed designed the logo…. NAILING IT!!

You remember that feeling you had as a kid when you swung a leg over your bike and blasted off towards your friend’s house linking cul-de-sacs and unfenced yards and dirt trails to get there?  Or how you felt that first day you rode 10, 20, 50 or 100 miles?  I wanted to design a road bike that reunited me with those feelings of freedom and exploration starting from the ground up.  I came to the drawing board (literally) with no preconceived notions on what this type of bike should look like, but I thought about how I want the bike to respond to the riding that I grew up doing and find myself gravitating towards again.  Kind of like if you took a CX bike, Randonneur, and go-fast Road bike and ran them over with a steam roller.  Take that hunk of iron and produce one bike that could do it all.  An adventure bike without equal.  A Fat Tired Road Bike, or FaTRoB as I like to call it.  All the necessary features and nothing you don’t.  A feeling of youth you could grab in bike form for just $1950 frame and fork.” – Joshua Bryant (Cycles J Bryant)

Definitely make sure to head over to Cycles J Bryant and check out the back story on each FatRob model. If the stories don’t make you laugh just a little then this frame/fork combo might not be what you’re looking for. When we labeled it as a #GETRADMACHINE we meant just that! Ride everywhere with the serious and light hearted alike in the terrain of their choosing, if need be, but never neglecting that dark and mysterious dirt road no one else is willing to conquer!

Go check out more info at our shop. The preorder is limited to 15 frame and forks and will last until the end of August with a delivery date of late Fall. Feel free to email ( createfolly@gmail.com ) with any questions you may have. Thank you for your support!

Cheers! RIDE x CREATEphoto 1
