Solid three-way collaboration. Diggin’ it.

“In the SILCA booth for NAHBS 2016 we will highlight the skill and creativity that goes in to creating functional art.  As a kickoff to the show we have collaborated with Dustin Klein and YANCO to create a tool wrap to showcase the live painting that will go on by DKlein himself in the SILCA booth at NAHBS. Joshua Portner, president of SILCA says, “Our vision has long been the creation of ‘Functional Art’ so It is so amazing to be able to partner with these two amazing artists and watch as every single detail of this project was created from scratch from the hand drawing of the art, to the custom printing of the canvas, to the hand sewing of each individual piece.”

Dustin Klein is the creative force behind many cycling related art projects, as well as the Cadence Collection. In Dustin’s words, “Having the opportunity to work with such a legendary brand as SILCA has been a surreal experience. Josh’s support of creatives has been very impressive. I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts at NAHBS this year as we have some new hand painted projects that will be unveiled at the show.”

DOODE!!! BRILLIANT CONCEPT!

“Few tools are used as frequently, and can cause as much heartache or wasted time as the seemingly simple hex key. It’s one of the first things you notice at the top levels of motorsport tools, or in the toolboxes of Pro-Tour mechanics: extremely high quality hex keys. The reasoning is simple, better tool fit leads to better feel and confidence for the mechanic as well as a significant reduction in the likelihood of damaging exotic fasteners made from Titanium or Aluminum.

 For the HX-One we had to start with the finest S-2 Tool Steel, a shock resistant steel which has been refined by Swiss and German toolmakers for the optimal balance of strength, hardness, shock resistance and dimensional control. S-2 yields stronger tools with much harder surfaces for prolonged tool life. The keys are then coated with thin-dense Chrome, a process generally reserved for mold tool components or optical grade surfaces inside molding tools. This coating provides the hardest, most dimensionally stable finish possible on each hex key. Finally, each tool is spray coated with a high-grip, high-visibility textured polymer finish for maximum grip and control. No more dropping your tools with greasy fingers or losing them on your workbench!

Included with the HX-One Essentials Kit is the proprietary SILCA 17-4 Stainless Magnetic Adapter. The Adapter with a pleasant magnetic click turns the 6mm Hex Key into a ¼” socket drive which can fit any common ¼” driver Bit. Included in the kit are the 6 most common Torx sizes, 2 Phillips Head and 2 Flat head Drivers. You can literally handle any modern bicycle fastener with the tools in the box.  

Each HX-One kit is lovingly packed into a fully CNC machined box made from sustainable Beech Wood. Each box is hand sanded and finished before receiving the stainless steel SILCA Shield on the lid.

 “One of our goals with this lifetime set of tools was to have it be completely one-hand accessible (we’ve all been there..). The fine Beechwood Box uses a magnetic closure system and each tool rests in a CNC machined slot, held in place by a single elastomeric tab. The Lambo of floor pumps.

By adding a Low Pressure kit to a standard Ultmate pump, the discerning cyclist can go from 1psi accuracy to 0.5psi accuracy at CX pressures” – Joshua Portner, President of SILCA

I can only imagine if SILCA is putting that much detail on half psi differences then the craftsmanship behind this pump have to be immaculate.

“In the 1920’s SILCA revolutionized roadside inflation with the creation of the Impero Frame Fit Pump.  These early pumps used the revolutionary material ‘Duraliminium’ (2000 series aluminum) to replace steel.  Within a few years SILCA pumps could be found on the bicycles of more than 80% of the professional peloton which was then still fully self supported.  Over the next 70 years the Impero would be the most widely used frame pump in the world, introducing further technology advancements, first changing the barrel to Celluloid and later moving the handle and head to Plastic in the 1960’s.

For 2015 we are thrilled to introduce Impero Ultimate, the merging of high tech modern materials and manufacturing with the full aluminum construction and durability that was a hallmark of the original Impero.

Impero Ultimate features a high tech head gasket with unique 2-stage seal to provide ultimate sealing and holding even when compared to lever chuck designs.  Solid aluminum head with brass check valve ensures a lifetime of flawless use, and fully aluminum barrel, handle and piston rod result in a pump that is both competitive in weight with plastic designs while being significantly stronger, smoother and more durable.

Unique FlexWing Silicone bumpers on the head and handle tip are designed to handle tubing diameters from 1″ (25mm) to 2.5” (64mm) using a unique flexible outer wing which adjusts under pressure.  An additional Silicone bumper on the main barrel protects paint, eliminates vibrations and noise, and also acts as a compression lock against the pump handle to keep it from moving unless you want it to.

Impero Ultimate is Manufactured in the USA using Alcoa Aluminum extrusions and bar stock. Impero uses a 19mm diameter leather piston custom manufactured by the same supplier in Milan who has supplied SILCA leather since 1947, and the brass check valve is a modified version of the check valve used in the SuperPista Ultimate.
