HIPCAMP // Austin, TX

imageHIPCAMP… lets take a look.

I’ve camped all over the land from sea to shining sea. In some instances I prefer to have a little more than the average ground camping experience but for the most part I love to hike/ride in, find IT, and set up for the evening. HIPCAMP is not your average ground camping experience. It is a group of folks that have you covered from the time you get there to the time you leave.

What does that mean? It means that you show up, check in, nab a tent (if you didn’t bring one), go pick a spot, grab your HIPCAMP cup and enjoy the abundance of adult refreshments that never quit flowing (don’t worry all you who do not drink, there are alternative beverages if you choose to flow that way). Dinner, breakfast, and coffee are provided (read about the awesome coffee in the post below) along with yoga taught in the morning after a night of great live music and maybe a little moon light swimming.

To sum in up, HIPCAMP is relaxing, energetic, fun with like minded folks that may turn into longtime friends you can enjoy the outdoors with for many moons to come. Go to HIPCAMP and find out what drives them to get more people outside.

Here is a photo recap from my experience. I hope you enjoy. Cheers!

FOLLY Review // The Kammok Roo

All TogetherI’ve had the pleasure of using the Kammok Roo for the last couple weeks. Kyle and I have set up the Roo in all types of city environments to chill, drink coffee, and watch the sun rise/set. The point is not only to chill with friends over a beverage of choice, but to show how easily accommodating the Kammok Roo is in all environments.

The Roo comes in this nice little self containing roll top pouch that keeps it protected from the elements. The pouch is secured to the Roo so you will not have to keep up with it when you pull your Kammok out. What most new people to the Kammok experience will do (wink wink) is open the roll top bag and pull the Roo completely out only to have it flapping in the wind, dangling on the ground getting dirty where your head is about to be. This may not be that big of a deal in some environments, but not all environments are made equal (i.e. I would not want my Roo to be hanging out on the ground where used oil has saturated the concrete).Self contained pouch 1How do you avoid this potential issue?

First make sure your Python Strap’s are set up and secure.Python StrapThen, making sure you have packed your Roo in a manner that the Kanga Claw carabiners are at the top of the pouch (very easy to do), you walk over to one Python Strap, secure the Roo to it, and walk away. Letting the Roo pull itself out of the compression sack until you reach your other Python Strap. Kanga ClawBOOM!! You’re all set up and ready to enjoy your Roo!! All Together1OH! and don’t worry about falling through the Roo, It may feel like taking a leap of faith the first time you get in it, but once you do, you won’t want to get out.

The Roo is “made of Kammok’s proprietary diamond ripstop fabric, LunarWave, the Roo is incredibly lightweight, tear resistant, breathable, and roomy enough for two.” – Kammok

With its 500 lbs. copacity, you’ll be able to fit a small family and the dog comfortably. LunarWave FabricI hope you’ve enjoyed reading my two cents. Go check out Kammok’s Instagram page for other rad snaps! Kyle and I have had the pleasure of taking over Kammok’s account this week, posting out take on the Roo.

Being that I’ve just recently built up our FOLLY x BRYANT FaTRoB to ride all over the land for bikepacking trips… the Kammok Roo couldn’t have landed in my lap at a more perfect time.

Thanks a ton Kammok!! You guys are nailing it on all levels. Super pumped to see what you come up with next! Cheers!

The Flat Track Coffee Experience

Flat Track3These people!! I’ve seen these fine folks throughout the web, most likely via John, but it didn’t click that they were in Austin, TX. We were skating the streets when Kyle said “I want to go check out that mural”, I saw the Flat Track van and the light turned on.

After a few outside shots we head into a small, well designed, almost hidden coffee shop with a few stools and a bench to sit on.

Little did we know that they were actually closed but this very friendly girl behind the counter was more than happy to serve us some caffeinated beverage. We discussed what we were doing in town as I’m looking all around at the rad Land art that was everywhere, most likely looking like a special needs person, until I received an eye opening amazing cortado.

I drank a lot of coffee while in Texas that was amazing but Flat Track takes the cake. The vibe, friendly people, and way SOLID coffee nails it on all levels.

These few shots are my favorite from the bunch. Go to FOLLY x FILM and check out the rest. Cheers!

Transit Bicycle Company // Get Rad

Transit bikesThis shop is so rad! From the moment I took one step in the front door I was filled with all things Ride x Create… to include art work from The Bodega Negra.

Kyle and I were politely greeted as we entered Transit Bikes by Thomas. I introduced myself and talked a little bit about FOLLY, expressing that I was really into the Transit shop. Thomas talked to me about some cool stuff going on at the shop and in the area, as well as show me his sick All City machine! He had it decked out with everything it should be decked out with.

I’d say Kyle and I spent a grand total of about 10 minutes in the shop due to time conflicts, so I did my best to capture the shop as quickly as possible… but that doesn’t matter… WHAT matters is, if you’re in the Dallas area and looking for the best bikes/service in town… look no further; Transit Bicycle Co. are your people.

Fact: When I come back to visit the great city of Dallas I will be spending more time at Transit. Fact: They love coffee and the Ride x Create vibe. Fact: You will find the latest and greatest rad gear their. Them the facts.

Go to FOLLY x Film for more photos of the shop. I hope you’ll go check out Transit Bicycle Company for yourself. Cheers!Transit bikes all city2transit bikes4

I’ll Never Wash My Hand

imageSo, it went down like this…

I emailed John Watson the week before I was gonna be in Austin letting him know I would love to get together for a ride x shoot sesh. He politely responded asking which bike I was gonna bring; The FaTRoB of course. Looked up airfare with a bicicleta and shook my head. So I decided to bring my board, cruise around, maybe just grabbing a drink with John, high five, and scoot about my business. Unfortunately John was tied up, our schedule got very tight, and we were gonna miss each other.

Kyle and I had just gotten to Austin, ate lunch, and started to cruise the street. Stopped at this one spot with busted signs to see if any good shots presented themselves when two swift moving hooligans came zipping around the street corner.

It was quite funny when I realized who it was. I noticed Lauren first, then John on his bitchin Rosko mountain whip. As they approach I say softly “Hey John, it’s Matt from FOLLY”. John and Lauren both stop seeming a bit confused, then I proceed to say “what’s up dude! This is random”, shake his hand properly introducing myself.

Lauren pedals about her way after John tells her he’ll be at the house in a second. We chat for a few minutes about his new workspace and that he’s about to depart to Portland for the AWOL x Poler reveal. Feeling that he’s got a lot to accomplish, like pack a bike and get his junk together for the trip, I ask if I can take a few shots before he leaves. He’s down of course, snap, snap… snap, “it’s nice to meet you in person man”, and away John went.

Why am I telling you this story? Not Sure really, other than I’m super amped on how this shot turned out.

The sixth post I posted on the blog at the very beginning of FOLLY identified John as an authority in the cycling world. His work has inspired me personally and professionally. It’s never a bad idea to show appreciation and maybe that’s what this is, but what I know without a shadow of a doubt is that someone needs to feed John a double cheese burger ASAP. That man is too skinny!

Cheers! I hope you enjoyed reading.

Get To The Top

imageKyle and I were headed back from a morning of meetings, riding, and shooting. On our way back to nab some lunch I see the Dallas skyline and inquire about getting on one of the roofs for a product shoot. Kyle says “hold that thought… I know a guy”. So… I hold that thought and no more than a couple quick calls later we’re cleared to go explore the Hyatt Regency building. Although the view was stunning, the location did not offer what we needed for the shot we were looking for. So we soaked in the beaming sun and the Dallas skyline on a rad rooftop location. Not bad at all. image

The Diggest // Joe Rich from Terrible One Interview

PERSPECTIVE 003 – JOE RICH from The Diggest on Vimeo.

This is so rad and inspiring. When FOLLY first started I had no intention of diving into BMX. After being introduced to Chris Rost , the folks he rides with, and rad company’s like Terrible One my interest began to grow. I grew up skateboarding with little to no BMX riders around so I never gave it any thought. I don’t ride BMX but have developed a huge appreciation for the creative output that it is.

Here is my favorite photo from Joe’s interview on The Diggest. Go check out the rest.
